Overview

This Privacy Policy describes how Wisdom Loop collects, uses, stores, and protects your personal information when you use the service. By using Wisdom Loop, you consent to the practices described in this policy. We are committed to collecting only the information necessary to deliver and improve the service, and we never sell your data to third parties.

Wisdom Loop is designed as a private reading companion. There is no public profile, no social feed, and no requirement to share what you read. Your reading life stays yours.

Information We Collect

We collect the following categories of information:

Account information — the email address and display name you provide when you register, along with authentication credentials (handled securely via bcrypt hashing or Google OAuth).
Reading data — the books, reading progress, format preferences, notes, takeaways, and status changes you create or upload while using the service. This is the core data the service exists to store and sync.
Usage information — basic technical and analytics data, such as pages visited and feature usage, used to operate and improve the service. This does not include the content of your reading data.

How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to: provide, maintain, and improve the service; authenticate your account and keep it secure; sync your reading data across devices; communicate with you about your account, changelog updates, and material changes to our terms or policies; and comply with legal obligations.

We do not sell your personal data. We share information only with service providers that help us operate the platform (such as hosting, database, and email delivery), and only to the extent necessary for them to perform those functions on our behalf. These providers are bound by contracts that prohibit them from using your data for any other purpose.

We may disclose information when required by law or to protect the rights, property, or safety of Wisdom Loop, our users, or the public.

Data Retention

We retain your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the service. You may delete your account at any time. Upon deletion, we remove or anonymize your personal data, except where retention is required to comply with legal obligations or resolve disputes.

Data Security

We use industry-standard safeguards to protect your information, including encryption of passwords at rest (bcrypt), HTTPS for all data in transit, httpOnly cookies for session tokens, and the principle of least privilege for database access. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we work to protect your data and to limit access to it.

Your Rights and Choices

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to access, correct, export, or delete your personal data. You can update much of your information directly in the application. Data export and account deletion are first-class product features. To exercise other rights, contact us using the information below.

Third-Party Services

Wisdom Loop integrates with optional external services to enhance its functionality:

Google OAuth — if you choose to sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address, and profile picture from Google solely for authentication. We do not access your Google Drive, Gmail, or any other Google service data.
Google Books API — used to look up book metadata (title, author, cover art) when you add a book. No personal data is sent to Google in these lookups.

These integrations are optional and used only for the purposes described.

Children’s Privacy

Wisdom Loop is not directed to children under the age of 16, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can remove it.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the effective date at the top of this document and notify you in accordance with our Terms of Service. Your continued use of Wisdom Loop after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
